CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Background of the Study
Military logistics encompasses the planning and execution of the movement, maintenance, and supply of forces. Effective logistics operations are critical for ensuring mission readiness and operational efficiency. At the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State, logistics management has traditionally relied on manual processes and limited technological tools, which often result in inefficiencies, delays, and resource misallocation.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative solution in military logistics, offering capabilities such as predictive maintenance, route optimization, and inventory management. AI-driven systems analyze large datasets to forecast supply needs, minimize waste, and ensure timely delivery of critical resources. By automating repetitive tasks and providing real-time insights, these systems enhance the overall efficiency of logistics operations.
In Zaria, the adoption of AI-driven logistics remains nascent, with challenges such as limited expertise, inadequate funding, and resistance to change. This study investigates the impact of AI-driven systems on enhancing military logistics at the Nigerian Army Depot, highlighting its benefits and challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The Nigerian Army Depot faces persistent challenges in logistics management, including delays, resource wastage, and inefficiencies. While AI-driven systems offer solutions to these issues, their application in military logistics in Zaria remains underexplored. This study evaluates the impact of AI in enhancing logistics operations at the depot.
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of this study is to assess the impact of AI-driven systems in enhancing military logistics at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria. The specific objectives are:
1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypotheses
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study provides empirical evidence on the benefits of AI in military logistics, contributing to improved operations at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria. It serves as a reference for future AI integration in military operations.
1.7 Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study focuses on AI applications in military logistics at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria. It excludes broader military operations and logistics systems outside Zaria. Limitations include restricted access to military data and proprietary AI systems.
